Zakarpattya cucumber producers favor Crispin cucumber hybrid this year

Produce market of Ukraine is developing by fast rates: buyers are becoming more particular. They choose for certain hybrids or varieties. Producers and processors are adjusting to this trend.

Some years ago processors geared to purchase smooth and low blotchy cucumber. But, there is a trend now to increase purchases of intensively blotchy cucumber - this year Zakarpattya processors prefer to buy Crispin hybrid of NUNHEMS company. This hybrid is large-blotchy, it has perfect taste qualities, and it is stored well. The product crisps - it influences the final demand for the produce much. The hybrid is produced in the open ground on trellis. Arut Zagranyan, the Senior Specialist of CONTINENT processing plant pointed out that only Crispin hybrid suits well for pickling. The whole process is adjusted for the particular hybrid and variety.

This hybrid is of demand on fresh market too. The price for this cucumber is $0.01-0.02/kg higher than for other hybrids of cucumbers on GID wholesale market in Mukachevo. The price difference for cucumber hybrids of one commodity group is observed for the first time in the region. The situation is also caused by the increased demand for crisp cucumbers.

According to evaluations of the specialists of Zakarpattya AMP office, this hybrid occupies one third of cucumber plantings in Zakarpattya. First shipments of this hybrid started to enter markets two weeks ago. The differentiated price for cucumber hybrids has been set exactly by the present moment.
