The Director of SHUVAR market: there will be no bazars in two years in Ukraine
Roman Fedyshyn, the Director of Lviv wholesale produce market SHUVAR informed that, to his opinion, practically no retail produce markets (bazars) are likely to operate in one-two years in Ukraine. Mr. Fedyshyn made this statement on the conference "Development of the wholesale markets for agricultural commodities in Ukraine" conducted in Lviv.
Roman Fedyshyn validates his statement by several reasons. The main reasons are: first of all, bazars are usually located in good city places ensuring great streams of people. As a consequence, such sites are highly attractive for the actively developing supermarket chains and trading centers. Supermarkets and trading centers are able to offer great money for the site rent, as their turnover from one square meter significantly exceeds the bazar turnover.
Second, the supermarkets are readily competing for clients with bazars, to a large extent due to the improved fresh produce departments. Modern foodstuff supermarket is able to be ahead of typical bazar not only due to the quality of produce commodities and the modern packing, but also due to the assortment, and often - even due the produce price.
The conference on "Development of the wholesale markets for agricultural commodities in Ukraine" is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of Ukraine, Lviv oblast State Administration, the EU TACIS Project on "Improvement of the logistics and marketing systems for small and medium agricultural producers", the wholesale produce market SHUVAR and USAID project on "Agricultural reform and improvement of regulatory system" under support of the Agricultural Marketing Project.
