The Agricultural Marketing Project reduces cabbage production forecast
In view of unfavorable weather conditions, in particular lack of rainfalls on the significant area of Ukraine, the Agricultural Marketing Project has to reduce the cabbage production forecast in 2006. The forecasted cultivation areas for cabbage are decreased 11% comparing to 2005; the forecast of the average yield is declined to 0% growth comparing to the previous year.
As a result, the specialists expect the gross cabbage harvest in 2006 to exceed 11% these data for 2005. This rate is thrice as low comparing to the production growth forecasted before the season.
As the gross harvest of cabbage forecast is reduced, there will be practically no risk of overproduction (as it was declared earlier). If the forecast is justified, cabbage price will be relatively high this season. However, the prices will possibly be lower than in the previous season. Many things will depend on weather conditions in the second half of September and October which are to stipulate the final yield of cabbage and the possibility of long-tem storage of this crop.
