Ukraine climbs down in the rating of the largest suppliers of apple concentrate to the EU countries

In view of reduced apple production in Ukraine in 2006, and also due to the constantly decreased share of commercial apples in apple harvest, Ukraine is gradually loosing the leading position among the largest suppliers of apple concentrate to the market of the EU countries.

In 2005 Ukraine supplied to the EU countries almost 27,000 tons of apple concentrate in total. Our country gave way to Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, China and Poland as for the supplied volumes. According to e-bronisze.pl site, in 2005 Poland remained the largest supplier of apple concentrate to the EU countries; it exported 227,000 tons of this commodity worth the total sum of EUR 191 mln. China continued building up its presence on the EU market. By 2005 this country has increased the supply volumes up to 161,000 tons; in 2000 China supplied only 33,000 tons of apple concentrate to European Union.

To the opinion of Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project, this year China is able to become the main supplier of apple concentrate to the EU countries. Moreover, China can be ahead Poland, cause apple production goes on increasing in that country. At the same time, Ukraine will possibly reduce the export of this commodity. This fact is caused by the growing inner consumption and the reduction of marketable apple production on the background of the simultaneous price growth up to 35-45% comparing to 2005.

You can get more information about the trends and perspectives of Ukrainian and world apple markets during the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" from the leading experts of this industry. We remind that a little more than three weeks are left till the end of the registration for participation in the conference!
