Prices for most Ukrainian vegetables decreased comparing to 2005
According to information of the Agricultural Marketing Project, at the present moment average prices for most vegetable commodities, but for greenhouse vegetables, are significantly lower than mid November 2005.
You can buy the wholesale shipment of potato in average 20% cheaper than a year ago in Ukraine. The price for white cabbage has decreased 40%. The other types of cabbage (broccoli and cauliflower) have not grown expensive too dramatically - 5-15% in average. At the same time, an average price for Pekinese cabbage has grown 10-20%; however, the consumption of this product remains relatively low in Ukraine especially in the conditions of the grown supply of fresh lettuces and herbs.
Some producers hoped to profitably sell bulb onion this year; now they have to admit 25-45% price decrease comparing to November 2005. This is the result of the top record production of this commodity. An average wholesale price for carrot has decreased 20-30%, for table beet - 20%. Bell pepper is still 25% cheaper than in November 2005, but the sales of the field commodities will be over soon. So, the prices for this commodity can significantly grow.
Greenhouse tomatoes are in average 8-10% more expensive, greenhouse cucumbers - 20% and more expensive now than in 2005.
