Russia: specialists forecast potato price growth

Russian market players say that the prices for potato have been remaining stable during several past weeks; they stay within the range $0.2-0.26/kg. At the present moment the vendors have no reason to reconsider the prices because demand and supply are well balanced now on market. However, according to information of the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the situation can change much on Russian potato market. The producers talk about rapidly decreasing stocks of quality potato on market. The thing is, the producers have to sort out potato in storages, as its quality has deteriorated much recently. The producers inform about incidents of potato rot as a result of a rainy summer 2006. The exact potato losses are unknown, but market players are sure to report about reducing storage stocks.

"Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal thinks that this circumstance will result in the price growth as soon as in the beginning of winter.
