Ukraine: will the prices for table beet grow?

The monitoring of the situation on the produce market of Ukraine (conducted by the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal) speaks about the demand growth for table beet. To the opinion of the analysts of the journal, this fact is predetermined by the reducing stocks of this crop on the background of the excessive stocks of the other root crops and cabbage.

According to the assessments done by the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the production of table beet has increased 8-10% in 2006 in Ukraine. At the same time, the cabbage harvest is 11%, onion harvest - 16%, carrot harvest 19% is greater in 2006 than in the previous season. Nevertheless, the rush of the demand for table beet in the recent days has not resulted in the wholesale and retail price growth for this product because the stocks are still sufficient.

The market players think that the prices for table beet can somewhat increase in February-March. However, to their opinion, the price growth won't be too significant cause many farmers and wholesalers are likely to actively market the table beet stocks in the mentioned period of time.
