Wholesale companies started to actively purchase cabbage

Ukrainian vendors continue observing the increased activeness of the wholesale companies which purchase cabbage, the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal is reporting. Past week the price growth failed to discourage the buyers; to the contrary, the producers informed about a greater number of bids received for the large shipments of cabbage. It is not always possible to satisfy the growing demand because cabbage is mostly sold now out of the non-equipped storages (piles). The greater part of the stored cabbage got rotten "thanks" to warm winter; the producers have to constantly sort and peel the rest of cabbage stocks. The peeled cabbage quickly gets spoiled if exposed even to the light frosts. That's why not all producers are ready now to regularly supply the large shipments on market: the rush demand is created among the wholesale purchasers as a result.

In their turn, the owners of the storages equipped with the cooling installations refrain from the sales mostly because of the low prices; they plan to start sales not earlier than in the first half of spring. However, taking into account a great harvest and large cabbage stocks in the specialized storages, the majority of vendors do not count on the high price.

Also, we have already informed that the oversupply of cabbage is observed in Poland where this product cost EUR0.06/kg at minimum. That's why, if the cabbage prices start growing in Ukraine, the cabbage of Polish origin will be supplied to our country; the price growth will be restrained with a great share of probability.
