Tomato prices started to grow because of the import reduction in Ukraine

According to information provided by the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the vendors have started to reconsider the sales prices upwards because of the reduced tomato supplies to Ukraine. The market players inform that the demand for tomatoes keep up the high level in all oblasts of Ukraine; the dynamic reduction of tomato supplies just preconditions the further price growth.

In the beginning of this week the major volumes of tomatoes were sold for up to $1.8-2.4/kg (several western oblasts informed about exclusions when the prices were about $2.8-3.4/kg because of the insufficient tomato shipments). As of today, the range of the sales prices has grown up to $2.2-2.8/kg.

We have already informed that the first shipments of tomato of the national origin will enter the market not earlier than mid March 2007. The price formation for tomatoes will fully depend on the frequency of the imported tomato supplies on market.
