Ukraine continues exporting onion to Russia and Poland
Despite of the almost finished sales season for onion of 2006 harvest, the price for this product is holding relatively stable. The market players inform that it is getting harder to find quality onion on market, so that the prices are slowly pressed up. The prices for onion are several times as low than in the previous year; at this period of time in 2006 a serious deficit for past year harvested bulb onion has been evident on market.
The owners of quality storages with stocks of marketable onion prefer exporting this product because exporters are still able to offer higher price than the buyers on the inner market of Ukraine. Also, the export provides an opportunity of selling large shipments; to the contrary, to get the affordable price in Ukraine, the resellers have to trade small wholesale shipments. According to information provided by the experts of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal", the exporting shipments are mainly supplied to Russia and Poland, as before.
The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal point out that the massive supplies of early onion of Ukrainian origin (winter onion varieties) will be in place in mid June, so that the demand for bulb onion of 2006 harvest is likely to go down.
