Hugh sugar content in Moldavian grape compensates production decline this year
According to information of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly", Moldavian grape producers expect the yield to decline in 2007 comparing to 2006 because of drought and frosts. At the same time, they talk about the expected high quality grape. Due to sunny and hot weather the sugar content will be significantly higher than a year ago, it let the farmers hope for the higher sales price.
It is worth mentioning that "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" forecasts the grape harvest to reach 460-500,000 tons; it will be 1.5 times as high comparing to 2006. These data approximately correspond to the volumes of grape production in Moldova. The analysts think the prices for table grape on Ukrainian market may decline a little bit due to the increased supply of grape in the lower price segment.
Taking into account the partially released embargo for Moldavian wine supplies to Russia we can expect that the prices for grape will grow in this country comparing to the previous year.
