Russia: Producers Point to High Apple Harvests in Southern and Central Regions of Russian Federation
As experts of fruit and vegetable CIS business weekly inform, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" < apple producers from southern and central regions of RF can now confidently state that this year apple crop exceeds essentially the last year indices. At the same time, it is noted that high harvest of apples have both major producers and minor farms belonging to population.
Despite increase in yield, prices for apples this season have not only gone down, but also exceed slightly the last year indices. Nowadays, prices for apples are from 9 to 17 Rubles per kilo depending on variety, quality and volume of consignment. To producers' mind, higher quality of products allows to sell apples more expensively.
Yet, according to market player information, demand for apples is currently moderate, and significant demand activation in this segment is expected in the nearest weeks. This time, first lots of late sort apples will begin to enter the market, and selling prices for them will be formed proceeding from the supply of product at the market as a whole.
