Ukraine: Peach Wholesale Prices Are Almost Twice Lower Than Those Last Year

According to analysts of CIS fruit and vegetable business journal forecasts "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" peach production in Ukraine during current season resulted in decrease in their wholesale prices. Despite the fact that most sales in big cities account for imported peach and nectarine, whose prices are approximately at the last year level, there are also domestic, cheaper peaches, which, however, are inferior to the imported in appearance and package quality. At the same time, consumers think that the taste qualities of the domestic peach are higher than those of the imported.

In the middle of this week, peach average wholesale prices at the wholesale market "Fermer" in Kyiv were lower by 40-45% than at the same period of time past year, and in L'viv peaches were sold cheaper by 30%.

Let us remind that according to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" forecasts s, peach production in Ukraine in 2007 will be twice as large, however it is one and a half times lower than its potential. The reason is looses from early frost that gardeners of Ukrainian south experience the third year in a row.
