Low-rate quality of newly harvested onion in Russia creates opportunities for profitable sales of quality products

The specialists of CIS produce business periodical, "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" weekly inform, the quality of newly harvested potato remains relatively low this year. Because of this fact the producers are forced to decrease prices for poor quality products. As a result, the average wholesale price for onion has already declined down to $0.31-0.39/kg.

At the same time, the prices for quality onion remain quite high. One can buy imported high-quality onion not cheaper than $0.46-0.54/kg. The lowest prices for the onion of national origin are recorded in Voronezhskaya and Moscowskaya regions ($0.21-0.31/kg), the highest prices are observed in Kirovskaya and Sverdlovskaya regions.

According to the data of the market monitoring done by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" specialists, the average wholesale price for onion amounted to $ 0.25/kg in Ukraine. It was possible to buy the wholesale shipments of onion for $0.13-0.15/kg directly from the producers in Kherson region.

The prices for onion were considerably higher than in Ukraine. The average wholesale price for onion was $0.28/kg to $0.32/kg on Bronisze wholesale market in Poland; in the whole, this price was not much lower than the price recorded on Russian Federation market. Naturally, observing this price level for onion in Poland, we can hardly speak about onion export from this country to Russian market now. At the same time, the supplies of quality onion from Ukraine to Russia are becoming possible at the present moment.

You can find out the perspectives of onion market, and also markets of other fruit&vegetable types during the international conferences "Fruits&Vegetable Business of Russia 2007" to be held October 23rd-25th 2007 on the territory of "Expocenter" in Moscow, and "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007.
