Organic market shows high growth rates in Great Britain

FarmingUK informs, the sales of organic products (bio-products) reached GBP 2 billion in 2006 in Great Britain; the annual growth constituted 22%. The results of the consumer survey proved that more than a half of them have purchased organic vegetables, fruits and berries at least once during the recent 12 months.

"Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" weekly informs, organic market is almost absent in Ukraine despite of the fact that Ukraine is one of the world leaders as to the acreage of cultivation areas which is certified to produce organic agricultural products. However, these areas are mostly used to grow grain organically, which is further exported to the EU countries. By the way, organic forage is the most deficit organic product in Great Britain.

Ukrainian consumers still know almost nothing about organic products, so that we will hardly see the sections with organic vegetables, fruits, diary products, meat and baked products in Ukrainian supermarkets soon.
