Pomegranate plantations are extended in Azerbaijan

The best pomegranate varieties are grown in Geokchayskiy district of Azerbaijan Republic. More than 30,000 tons of these useful fruits are annually harvested there. The pomegranate is highly recognized, there are even holidays dedicated to this fruit, "Mir" TV broadcasting company informs.

Geochkay, the central region of Azerbaijan, is known as the pomegranate orchard of the Republic. The most popular varieties are grown here: they are Guleyshu, Shikhbabu, and Veles. The annual harvest is not less than 30,000 tons of beneficial for health fruits.

Zaur Aligasanov, the Director of Scientific-research institute of cucurbits crops and subtropical plants of Geokchayskiy district, says: "The climate of our area let us grow pomegranate trees with no problems. That's why we annually extend pomegranate plantations".

Pomegranate juice is a special pride of Geokchay district inhabitants. The plant is constructed here which modern equipment processes these fruits. Not only fresh pomegranates, but also juice is exported to CIS countries and Europe.

Mubariz Agayev, the Chief of Executive body of Geokchayskiy district, says: "Pomegranate production is one of the branches of agriculture in our district. The extended cultivation areas of pomegranate, and also the construction of a new plant (thanks to it one more product will be exported) let us several times increase the economic highlights of our district".

Thin pill, great weight and large grains - these are the peculiarities of Geokchay pomegranate varieties. People conduct holidays in honor of this fruit. The best region - pomegranate producer is announced during these "pomegranate days". But Geokchay inhabitants are sure that their pomegranate is the best in Azerbaijan.
