Ukraine: cabbage harvest is in danger in the central regions because of massive pests attacks

The massive injuries of cabbage cultivation areas with thrips are recorded in the farms of the central region of Ukraine, the market players inform "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly.

To the opinion of the specialists of Rijk Zwaan Ukraine, we observe this situation because the producers failed to timely apply measures to protect plants from this pest. Thrips caterpillars have massively occupied cabbage cultivation areas at the present moment; not only the top leaves of cabbage are damaged, but often the 5th-6th leaves too. Relatively warm autumn contributes to the rapidly spreading cabbage diseases. In this regard the producers of Cherkasskaya, Poltavskaya and Kyivskaya regions worry if they are able to load to the storages at least anything. There is no method to rescue the present cabbage harvest from thrips; despite of this fact, the specialists of Rijk Zwaan Ukraine insist that the farmers continue applying the assets on the plants in order to avoid similar problems next season.

The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" think, in addition to relatively low cabbage yield on most part of the country territory, as a result of losses caused by drought and heat, the diseases provide another factor for us to forecast relatively high price for this product in winter period.
