Onion prices equaled in Ukraine and Poland
Despite of the confirmed information about the considerably increased onion production in Poland in 2007 the prices stay relatively high for this product. The data of the daily monitoring of the wholesale prices for fruits and vegetables in Ukraine, Russia and Poland confirm this fact. The monitoring is conducted by CIS produce business periodical "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly.
According to our estimations, the prices for onion have declined 30% in average during the recent 4 weeks in Poland. The prices continue declining, however, they are just 20-30% lower than at the same date past year. At the same time, the more dramatic price decline for onion is observed on Ukrainian market. As a result, the prices for onion got practically equal in Warsaw and Kyiv. Onion price difference in Poland is insignificant to activate the mutual trade. However, onion price stay high enough on Russian market (to initiate supplies). Ukraine is also expected to supply onion to Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Moldova this year.
