Season of greenhouse tomatoes comes to an end in Ukraine

The players of fruit&vegetable business of Ukraine, communicating with the specialists of CIS produce business periodical "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, continue observing the absence of problems to sell greenhouse products. Greenhouse tomatoes enjoy stable demand, but, as before, the product shortage is recorded. The prices reflect this fact - they are 2-3 times as high than a year ago.

To the opinion of the experts of greenhouse business, greenhouse complexes - growers of tomatoes and cucumbers may undoubtedly consider this year as a credit. The profitability of greenhouse production has significantly increased thanks to the higher average annual price. Despite of the fact that in the beginning of the season the prices were somewhat lower than preliminary expected, and than the levels recorded past year, the prices were restored and exceeded the past year level in summer. The prices started increasing in August - the harvest of field tomatoes was to be obviously lower than a year ago. So, the prices zoomed dramatically up in September. We'd also like to point out that greenhouse tomatoes were actively exported from Ukraine to Russian market this year.

Due to the higher margin of greenhouse products in the next season many producers have planned to extend the cultivation areas under modern greenhouses; many farmers plan to grow cucumbers and tomatoes under agri-film.
