Potato harvest dramatically declined in Russia in 2007

Finally, the reasons of the price growth for potato in Russia have been officially confirmed. Russian Statistics Committee informed "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly that the preliminary results of potato harvesting in the country prove 7.5% production decline comparing to the previous year. According to the tentative estimations, potato harvest 2007 in Russia will amount to around 35.6 mln. tons, i.e. 2.9 mln. tons as less than a year ago.

"Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly informs, potato price level has already been higher in Russia than in Ukraine. However, the situation was contrary two months ago, when potato was even exported from Russia to Ukraine. At the present moment we can surely say about the possibility of the increased imports from Poland and Holland to Russia. By the way, at the present moment the prices for wholesale shipments of potato in Warsaw are twice as low sharp than in Moscow.

You can find out the details of the situation on potato market in Ukraine and Europe from the presentations of the leading experts of the industry during the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader" on the 4th-6th of December 2007 in Kyiv on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine". We'd like to remind that there are only three days left till the end of registration of the participants of the conference and wholesale-retail center!
