Global apple exports will continue to decline in 2007 - "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" forecasts
According to forecasts of the analysts of CIS fruit & vegetable business weekly "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the global apple exports will continue declining in 2007 as a consequence of the production decrease in the main countries-exporters.
To the opinion of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", one of the main reasons of the possible production decline of the global apple exports is the expected decline of apple production in China and European Union. We mention Poland here as well, which is the third largest exporter of apple in EU, yielding to Italy and France. This situation has already led to the increase of global prices for this product; as a result, the global consumption is depressed.
To the opinion of Andriy Yarmak, the manager of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the decline of the global apple production will positively influence the investors' interest to this segment. "Large investment projects on commercial orchards establishment on the areas from 500 to several thousands of hectares have been already under implementation in Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan. The increase of the global apple prices will just contribute to the further extension of apple orchard areas in the world, predominantly in the developing countries", the expert thinks.
The problems with apple yield in the recent years are temporary; they relate to the global climate changes. In addition to apples, their main competitors suffered as well - bananas and citrus fruits. Unusual weather conditions of this year resulted in the dramatically declined yield of bananas, lemons, oranges and tangerines in many countries. The prices have already reflected this situation.
