Potato prices decline in central, southern and eastern regions of Ukraine

The monitoring specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly inform that the prices for potato have significantly decreased in most regions of Ukraine since the previous week. It is interesting to mention that the price decrease was primarily observed in the regions where potato production declined, particularly in forest-steppe and steppe agriclimatic zones.

To the opinion of analysts of weekly periodical, the price decline for potato was the expected reduction correction predetermined by the increased production of potato in the country in general this season. Till the present moment the prices for potato have been much lower in the northern and western regions when the other regions of Ukraine; this fact stimulated more active trade.

During the previous week the wholesale prices for potato declined 4-5%, and so-called "Crimean" potato, popular in Crimea, has got 10-15% cheaper. However, the market players say most part of "Crimean potato" is grown outside Crimea. The prices for potato have declined 7% during one week in Donetskaya region, and 6% in Kyiv. At the same time, the specialists point out the insufficient volumes of quality potato on market, because the producers try to load quality products to storages and hope to get higher price in February-April.
