Moldova builds up onion imports from Ukraine

The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly inform, in October 2007 Ukraine significantly increased the shipments of onion to Moldova. To the analysts' opinion, this fact reflects the decreased attractiveness of onion supplies to Russia where onion supplies from Poland and Holland dominate.

Onion exports from Ukraine to Moldova did not exceed 500-600,000 tons during the whole previous season; meanwhile, only in October 2007 Ukrainian onion producers supplied around 1,000 tons of onion to this country. In total, since the beginning of the calendar year more than 2,600 tons of onion have been supplied from Ukraine to Moldova.
