Ukraine: gross crop of vegetables totaled 5.5 mln. tonnes of vegetables

According to the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, as of October 1, 2008, gross harvest of the open-soil vegetables totaled 5.548 mln. tonnes.

In particular, at the beginning of October, agrarian enterprises harvested 405.100 tonnes of vegetables, farms of the rural population harvested 5.143 mln. tonnes that totaled 93 % from the plan.

Production of vegetables increased by 16 % compared to the index of the last year due to increase of the average yield by 22 c/ha. The yield totaled 157 c/ha.

As of the reporting date, the open-soil vegetables were harvested throughout 353.6 mln. ha, that is mostly the same as compared to the last year.
