Dagestan: record crop of vegetable expected

As it was reported by the Ministry of agriculture, at the moment more that 30.000 ha have been harvested from 38.200 ha of exostent agrarian lands, reported RIA “Dagestan”. The gross crop totaled almost 755.000 tonnes with the yield of 248 c/ha. The volume of harvested crop is up 85 tonnes as compared to the same period of the last year.

The leaders in harvesting are the farms of Derbentsk region which harvested the record crop – nearly 240.000 tonnes with the yield of 510 c/ha, doubled as compared to the average index throughout the Republic.

After harvesting such a bumper harvest, the main problem is to sell the produce at profitable prices. However, the sale markets are quite narrow.

Vegetable-growing takes a leading place among the industries of plant cultivation in Dagestan. Number of people who work in this sector of production is substantially higher as compared to the same indices in the other industries.
