Moldova: walnut production increases

According to the representatives of fruit growing research institute of Moldova, walnut production is revived in the Republic, gross crop is expected to reach the level of 18.000 – 20.000 tonnes, reported IA “News-Moldova.

At the beginning of twentieth century, volumes of walnut production were substantial that allowed meeting domestic demand and exporting more than 5.400 tonnes of high quality nuts.

At the moment in Moldova there are more than 4 mln of nut trees and general lands total 6.200 ha. In the nearest future, yearly extend of walnut lands for 900 – 100 ha is expected that will allow to increase walnut production and export volume to 20.000 tonnes per year.
