Moldova: grape harvest to total 700.000 tonnes

In Moldova grape harvesting approaches the end, gross crop is expected to reach the level of nearly 700.000 tonnes.

According to the Ministry of agriculture, the average yield in some regions throughout the Republic totaled 85 - 90 c/ha, reported IA “News-Moldova”. At the same time, the highest yield of Izabella varieties totaled 120 – 140 c/ha. Nevertheless, the prices for these grapes are incredibly low – prices are declared within a range of 0.07- 0.09 euro/kg that is less 2-3 times as compared to the prices for European varieties.

The specialists of the National Institute of grape-growing reported that plantations of Izabella varieties grapes would be uprooted in the nearest future. This year harvest of this grape will total only 60.000 tones, that is less than10 % from the gross crop of grape harvesting in Republic.
