Russia: prices for cabbage decreased by 30%

Prices for late cabbage varieties started decreasing, reported market participants to the specialists of Fruit-Inform project. Harvesting campaign in the majority of farms has almost completed, purchasing for storing also is drawing to close. At the same time, large volumes of late cabbage varieties are still on the market. According to most market participants, overproduction of cabbage is the main reason of the current situation. The average yield increased by 15% as compared to 2007.

At the moment selling prices for cabbage are declared within a range of 0.06 -0.08 euro/kg and the highest possible wholesale price is on the level of 0.13 euro/kg that is 30% down as compared to the same indices of the previous week.

As analysts forecasted, in April 2009, prices for cabbage would be 20 % down as compared to the same indices of April of the current year.
