Russia: potatoes remain the most popular product

As most market participants reported, trade rates on the red-beet soup group market remain quite slow during the month. According to many producers, vegetable overproduction in this year is the main reason. Financial crisis that forced most wholesale and retail companies reduce purchasing volumes is an additional factor that influences purchasing activity. At that, almost all sellers reported that the most popular crop is potatoes due to high consumption level in the country. However, according to the information provided by the specialists of Fruit-Inform project, prices for potatoes remain stable during the month and prices are declared within a range of 0.19- 0.29 euro/kg depending on sale region. At that, main volumes of potatoes are supplied from small farms which do not have storing facilities and trying to sell produce till the cold period. Large producers take waiting stand declaring the highest possible prices and hoping on increase of trade rates.
