Russia starts poultry meat import quota
A quota has come into effect today for poultry meat imports to Russia. The quota will last for three years. The resolution of Russian government, stipulating introduction of the quota, was published three months ago.
From today up to December 31, 2003 the quota's size is 744,000 tonnes; from January 1 to December 31, 2004 - 1.05 million tonnes; the same amount - from January 1 to December 31, 2005. From January 1, 2006 till the date of expiry the amount of quota will be 306,000 tonnes.
According to the government's resolution, in 2003 USA will be able to bring to Russia 553,500 tonnes of poultry meat, EU countries - 139,900 tonnes, Brazil - 33,300 tonnes, China - 3,100 tonnes, other countries - 14,200 tonnes.
The import quota for 2003 was shared between the supplying countries in the proportion that had been established in the years 1999-2001.
