Ukraine. Demand for potatoes sharply decreased
Daily monitoring of situation with supply and demand for main products of fruit and vegetable sector by analysts of Fruit-Inform shows that demand for potatoes sharply decreased the last week. Wholesale companies are not practically interested in produce. That's why sales were relatively low in comparison with the mid September, and producers being in need of urgently selling of large batches were ready to compromise a price. Most producers disposing of modern potato storages did not agree to reduce prices and preferred to stop sales of potatoes expecting growth of prices already in a month.
According to opinion of Andrey Yarmak, head of the project Fruit-Inform, decrease of demand for potatoes was predicted, as volume of potato sales was unusually high in September due to unjustified agio in mass-media. As a result, potato stocks at wholesalers and households not disposing of their own production are currently higher than usually in such period of year. This means that a lot of purchasers withdrew from market for at least 1-2 months until potatoes purchased by them would either run out, or rot.
