Russia & Ukraine: Fruit and Vegetable Markets, the 7th Week of 2012


In the 7th week of 2012, the most prominent events in the Russian fruit and vegetable market were the following:

- cucumbers imported from Iran and Turkey were mainly of low quality;

- tomato imports from Morocco were lower week-on-week;

- Polish apple exporters' attempts to increase prices were not successful;

- a lot of market participants switched to Pakistani mandarins;

- Egyptian oranges improved their position in the Russian market.


At the same time, the Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market was characterized by the following developments:

- availability of Turkish cucumbers backed lower price range in the market;

- Turkish and Spanish tomatoes accounted for the largest share in the tomato supply;

- Egypt was the main supplier of oranges to the Ukrainian market;

- Pakistani mandarins were in the highest demand;

- banana prices rapidly grew.
