Odesa farmers successfully take an opportunity to get a higher price for their commodities due to the packing
The experience proves that due to the modern packing of the commodities one can not only find new sales channels, but also get the additional profit even in the moment of massive supply of the same commodity on market and price decrease trends. The packing let farmers show up their commodities among the other alike supplies. We informed that past year familiar by the excessive supply of white cabbage on markets one Odesa farmer was able to sell all cabbage reserves on price much higher than average cause he packed cabbage in plex-film.
This year other advanced Odesa farmer implemented the idea to pack radish in polyethylene parcels (of 220 g volume, on price 0.06 UAH each) and was able to sell the commodities to the supermarket chain on the wholesale price practically equal to the retail price of the local market. It was reported by the specialists of Odesa office of Agricultural Marketing Project. The farmer thinks that even taking into account the labor expenses for commodity packing the idea has been paid off fully.
Not long ago the producers considered commodity packing to be the extra luxury. The supermarket chains, especially such player as "METRO" entered the retail market of fruit and vegetable trade and changed the situation abruptly. The growing number of farmers is interested to purchase the modern containers which meet the requirements of supermarket chains.
