High quality cabbage runs short on market, the price grows

Market players point out difficulties to purchase large wholesale cabbage sets for storage. This factor, combined with the finished sales period for medium cabbage varieties, caused price increase. According to the data of cabbage wholesale price monitoring, to this moment price is fluctuating about USD 0.23-0.35/kg. The producers sell cabbage on USD 0.23-0.27/kg, and the price has grown considerably since recently, as there were cabbage supplies of USD 0.19/kg a week ago. Such considerable price margin is mostly caused by a very varied quality; good cabbage is much more expensive. According to the estimations of the Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), this year cabbage harvest is 5% less than in 2004 that influenced the situation on market too.

Despite of the decreased yield, cabbage producers are satisfied, as increased price reimbursed losses caused by lower yield. In 2004 at the same period of time the price fluctuated about USD 0.05-0.07/kg, at this moment cabbage costs not less than 0.23/kg.
