Broader vegetable assortment is sold now in retail in Lviv oblast
Spring and warm weather came, and again the buyers prefer to purchase fruits and vegetables on the city markets. Depending from the kind, the prices on fruits and vegetables are 10-25% higher in the produce shops compared to the city markets' prices. And, there are only eight supermarkets in Lviv that is not enough for the large city's population of 800 thousand people. In line with the favorable conditions for trade, the quantity of vendors and buyers increased as well.
Following the sales growth, the produce assortment increased too. Compared to the previous week, now there are broccoli cabbage, cauliflower, radish, egg-plant, early potato for sale. The sales volumes for these vegetables are not as significant as for the traditional vegetables for this season. Still, now a buyer can choose vegetables to his/her taste and money, as the available produce is rather expensive, not everyone can afford it. In particular, broccoli cabbage costs $4.9/kg, cauliflower $3.5-3.9/kg, radish $0.98-1.17/kg for a bunch, egg-plant $2.9/kg, and early potato $1.3/kg. Vendors say that such expensive produce is needed for assortment; and, they can make profit, as the margin for these products is also higher than for other vegetables. All the mentioned products, except radish, are imported mainly from Netherlands; potato is also supplied from Egypt, Israel and Morocco.
