A produce trade shelter will be constructed on FARMER wholesale market in Kyiv

According to the information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal by the Price Monitoring Specialists of the Agricultural Marketing Project, a produce trade shelter construction started on FARMER wholesale market better known as Troyeschina market in Kyiv. The market administration seems to care about the plans of Kyiv State Administration regarding the construction of the alternative wholesale market for produce trade; some money is being invested into the development of the already existing market.

Andrey Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project thinks that the present wholesale produce market represents the bottleneck of fruit and vegetable supply to the capital of Ukraine. The expert considers the market size, its state and location in the city to be the major problems. They do not let FARMER market satisfy the city needs in fresh produce to the fullest extent. These wholesale prices are often higher than the retail prices on vendors' shelves on city markets. There is a rather poor fruit and vegetable assortment; sometimes the basic items are absent. Another problem is the absence of the transparent trade rules and a dreadful deficit of the trading area, so that the vendors have to trade out of market along the street. This market is known for dirt and puddles, which also hamper fruit and vegetable sales.

The specialists think that a new wholesale produce market will appear in Kyiv soon. It will significantly enhance the efficiency level of fruit and vegetable trade in the capital; otherwise some large wholesale companies will take this function.
