Price collapse on mushroom market in Kyiv

The today's monitoring of the mushroom prices in Kyiv, done by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, signals that the price collapse for champignon and oyster mushroom is observed on market. To the opinion of the journal analysts, the price decrease is the consequence of the rapid growth of mushroom supply on the background of the relatively stable demand for this product.

Today the prices for champignon and oyster mushroom were around $1.3/kg on average. Champignons were sold for $1.8-1.9/kg; no oyster mushroom was offered for sale on Friday on FARMER wholeslae market. So, the price for mushroom has been reduced almost one third; however, the sales rates have not significantly increased.

The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal say that such level of the wholesale prices for champignon and oyster mushroom is untypical for this season. The lower price level was recorded only late May - early June past year. If the mushroom supply continues increasing on the market, the further price decrease will be inevitable, the specialists think.

It is also interesting to mention that the wholesale prices for mushroom are lower now in Kyiv than in Warsaw which is traditionally recognised as the regional leader of cheap and quality mushroom production. Poland exports the large volumes of mushrooms, both fresh and frozen; Ukraine has been the net-importer of mushroom till recently. Mushroom was imported from Poland, in particular, to our country.

We'd like to mention that at the present moment the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal is the only periodical which provides the weekly overview of mushroom market in Ukraine; it also let the readers monitor the daily prices for mushroom in Ukraine and in Poland. The periodical plans to start price monitoring for champignon and oyster mushroom in Russia and to present the overviews of the Russian mushroom market as well.
