Russia: growth rates of the retail market of frozen fruits and vegetables slowed down
Approximately 160,000 tons of frozen fruits and vegetables were sold in Russia past season. A year ago this figure amounted to around 130,000 tons. So, the increase is 20%, Alexander Melnik, Commercial Director of Lantan company, informed "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project. This way he announced his report on the conference "Fruit&Vegetable Business of Russia 2007".
However, if we look deeper, we see that the sales of vegetables sold by weight have increased to a much greater extent. The sales of packed vegetables have increased 10%, i.e. the consumption of packed frozen vegetables does not grow with the same fast rates as before. Weighed vegetables constitute 20-25% of the total sales volumes now.
Talking about the market trends, A. Melnik mentions the increase of the total price growth, the close to be saturated markets in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, the introduction of new trademarks of the frozen vegetables. Despite of the diversity of the trademarks of frozen vegetables, just a few Russian producers manufacture them. Several large projects on the production of frozen products have been recently announced; however, the market players admit the possibility that certain difficulties will arise during the implementation of these projects.
The details of the market of frozen fruits and vegetables will be covered for the participants of the conference "Fruit&Vegetable Business of Russia 2007", to be held on October 23rd -25th in the Expocenter on Krasnaya Presnya in Moscow.
