Ukraine: forming of tomato raw material base within planned volume failed

The season of tomato purchasing bu the processing plants has been almost completed, reported representatives of this industry to the specialists of Fruit-Inform project. According to most processors, they did not manage to form tomato raw material base in the necessary volume. In general, this situation was caused by insufficient supply of raw material as a result of agrarians’ refuse to produce tomatoes.

By the end of the season purchasing prices for industrial tomatoes had increased to the range of 0.33-0.39 euro/kg as compared to the last year level of 0.23 euro/kg. Enterprises specialized on the whole-fruit preserving had the most serious problems. The other problem was low qualitative indices of raw material due to unfavorable weather conditions during the tomato ripening season.

Thus, specialists of processing sector forecast sharp rise in prices for finished commodities during the current year due to high prices for raw material, packing and energy supply.
